How I Started as a Dominatrix in New York City

It was the end of 2016 and after 12 months of backpacking around the world, falling in love with a French boy, and getting caught “cheating” with my ex-sugar daddy and then CFO of the largest art auctioneer in the world—I was left heartbroken and penniless. All I had left was a ticket to Paris, scheduled to depart just a month after my relationship had ended. I could have forgotten all about the lifestyle, returned to the corporate world and played victim to the high speed love affairs that had burned me. But I didn’t; I changed that ticket to a flight to Cape Town, South Africa where I applied for my MBA, and started working as a Dominatrix in New York City to finance my education instead.

Although I’d only been doing sex work for less than 12 months, I was experienced with BDSM and femdom, having enjoyed my first Female Led Relationship (FLR) during undergrad with a previous boyfriend. We’d only broken up a year prior and after my brief foray as both a sugar baby and vanilla girlfriend, I deeply craved the power and authority kinky sex once provided me. Reflecting on it now, I’ve always been a dominant woman, and have desired to be with a queer and/or submissive man all my life. But because I am so feminine, it’s been difficult for the men in my life to meet or understand these needs. In many ways I was lost, and by answering that NYC Craigslist ad casting for “New Dominatrices willing to be trained”, you could say that I was finding myself.

I started working at NYC Afterhourz, a small dungeon run out of the TriBeCa apartment of New York’s infamous dungeon owner and biker gang affiliate, Randy. Randy was great on his best days and notorious on his worst, the image of an old, street-hardened Hell’s Angel who’d either done or sold far too many drugs. He’d take in all kinds of girls—runaways, New York City club kids, Seeking Arrangement sugar babies—few ever made any money and most spent their time waiting for flighty Backpage clients to cancel or swatting away sexual advances from Randy. As you can imagine, I didn’t stay for long.

I saved all the money I could and left for South Africa just a few weeks after I started working there. Cape Town was surreal; I’d never been somewhere so breathtakingly beautiful in my life. I decided on the University of Cape Town for my Master’s of Business Administration, but it would still be another 6 months of expensive testing, tutoring, and application fees before I could apply. I flew back to New York determined to become the industry’s highest paid Dominatrix, Fetish Model, and elite Escort. But… when I first returned to the city I was just another inexperienced Domme working at another New York dungeon; this time NY’s legendary Pandora’s Box. That year I spent almost 3 months popping in and out of New York City house dungeons, seeing clients who might not even remember me now—I was so quiet and naïve. I didn’t become the dominatrix I am now overnight, rather it took a once in a lifetime opportunity in Los Angeles and a chance encounter with industry great, Isabella Sinclair, to become Tasha Black.
